HAMPTON ROADS WRITERS CONFERENCE 2022: NOT JUST FOR WRITERS!

Many Mystery by the Sea members also belong to Hampton Roads Writers (HRW). HRW’s motto is “Where Characters Connect.” So, we thought we might take this opportunity to make an unabashed, unpaid, and heartfelt pitch for our readers to attend the upcoming HRW Conference being held at the Holiday Inn on Greenwich Road from September 22 to 24, 2022.

Founded in 2008, HRW has grown into a multi-faceted non-profit organization. HRW serves as one of Southeastern Virginia’s literary hubs and as a welcoming home for all who love the written word. Aspiring and professional writers in all genres and at all levels of ability benefit from a variety of programs, services, and events, often presented in partnership with other cultural organizations. HRW is supported by government grants, foundations, corporate partners, and the generosity of our members.

You can learn more about HRW on its website: Hampton Roads Writers – Where Characters Connect.

Here’s the key phrase: HRW is “… a welcoming home for all who love the written word.” As a reader, “loving the written word” fits you to a “T,” doesn’t it? You’ll meet some of your favorite local authors, listen to industry experts reveal their secrets, and learn the nuts-and-bolts of how we put pen-to-paper to make our characters and stories come alive. In sum, this is your opportunity to see behind the curtain. You won’t see the Great and Powerful Oz, but, no doubt, you’ll have a great experience.

So think about it. Join us beginning on Thursday evening, September 22nd. For more about the HRW Conference, go to: 2022 Conference Home – Hampton Roads Writers. We look forward to seeing you there—and thanking you, in person, for reading our books!

I will be there! So excited to pitch my latest WIP to two very well respected agents. Hope to see many of my friends there too. It's a great conference.

If it wasn't for readers, writers would be out of a job! I guess we could still write, but why? I mean, when a tree falls in the forest, it doesn't make a noise unless someone's there to hear it, right?

I can't wait! The first one I went to was in 2019 and it was the best time! It was so great to get to meet writers just like me in the 757 area code! I left there feeling like I had met so many kindred spirits and so energized to meet my next writing challenge!

I love conferences that put readers & writers together! It's all part of the Great Conversation...and so wonderful to all those who love the written word to be able to interact. Readercon & the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts are two that I've attended that carry this flavor for me.
